About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking experienced SSDS Operations Test Directors to be part of our dynamic technical team, located in Wallops Island, VA at the Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC). The SCSC is located on a barrier island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and is a tenant of the NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility. SCSC provides live combat systems suites with platform specific radars and sensors and supports the following functions: combat system lifetime support engineering, platform certification, operational and technical evaluation, combat system training, interoperability testing and participates in at-sea exercises. SCSC provides a high-fidelity representative combat system of every ship in the AEGIS, Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) fleet today and those planned in the future. The selected candidate will: Setup mission events utilizing a daily site element schedule Coordinate the check-out and installation of computer programs and electronic data Energize and initialize computers and combat system elements Establish interface switch paths Perform system checkout, and other site preparations necessary to ensure the readiness of the requested systems and equipment to support a successful mission event Perform systematic take down at the completion of the mission event Prepare and initiate comprehensive mission operations reports Coordinate system level troubleshooting efforts Function as the primary technical point of contact for SCSC mission customers Promptly report to the Government the status of mission events, systems and equipment.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or GED equivalent, coupled with a minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience on board an SSDS-equipped platform (e.g., CVN, LHD, LPD, LHA).
  • A minimum of 3 years of technical experience with the SSDS Integrated Combat System, including the responsibility for bringing the combat system from a cold-iron status to full operational capability for testing.
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge and hands-on experience with multiple SSDS variants (Mods) and baselines, such as: SSDS Mk 2 Mods 1-6 SSDS Baselines 9, 10, and 12
  • Must possess the technical expertise to manage the Combat System Maintenance Manager organization and effectively troubleshoot and maintain the integrated system, which includes horizon and volume search radars (e.g., SPQ-9B, SPS-48/49), and associated weapon systems like the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) and Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM).
  • This position requires the successful candidate to be able to obtain a Secret level clearance. The criteria for obtaining and holding a clearance are driven by US government requirements. You must be a US citizen to obtain a security clearance. Selected candidate will receive a contingent offer and start date will be delayed until an interim Secret clearance is granted.

  • Within that experience, a minimum of 2 years (may be concurrent) serving as a Combat Systems Maintenance Manager (CSMM) or Combat Systems Officer of the Watch (CSOOW), leading a team in the employment and maintenance of ship self-defense systems as part of the Combat Systems Training Team (CSTT).
  • Active DoD security clearance
  • Experience in an RDT&E environment
  • Knowledge and experience with ACCESS and TRMS
