About The Position

The SRC Tutor I for the Respiratory Care Program at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is a part-time temporary position that involves tutoring students through various modalities and methods. The tutor will refer students to relevant resources and assist with daily activities in the resource center. The position requires a commitment of 6-8 hours per week and offers a pay range of $16.31 to $20.77, determined based on relevant years of work experience. The role is non-exempt and comes with partial benefits.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma and successful completion of two years of undergraduate coursework.
  • Successful completion of courses in the Respiratory Care Program.
  • Basic skill set and proficiency in relevant areas.
  • Ability to conduct work assignments as directed with close supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Respiratory Care laboratory techniques.
  • Good communication skills, including listening with understanding and patience.
  • Ability to explain concepts in relation to theory and clinical applications, both orally and in written form.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, and/or semester-long tutoring (online and/or in-person) for lower-level biology courses.
  • Help students understand concepts clearly using anatomical models and online resources.
  • Provide guidance with lab techniques, including the use of microscopes.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources within the relevant resource center and larger Academic Resource Center.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to FERPA regulations.
  • Assist in daily activities of the center, including covering the front desk and checking out resources.
  • Ensure students are checked in/out and help maintain a positive, clean, and organized center space.
  • Assist students with computer systems/software and troubleshoot computer problems.
  • Use the appropriate scheduling system to manage and maintain tutoring schedules.
  • Participate in mandatory center training and other campus-wide training opportunities.
  • Report on time and adhere to the schedule, reporting absences in advance.
