They typically weld nozzles and fittings to tanks and heat exchanger shells and will fit up nozzles or similar components on standard products using jigs and fixtures. This role welds using gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) processes on fillet joints and groove joints with or without backing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to pass American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section IX welding test with the following variables:
  • FCAW/GMAW and submerged -arc welding (SAW) processes
  • Steel-steel and stainless-stainless material
  • Flat and horizontal positions
  • With or without backing
  • 2+ years of welding experience using drawings, specifications, charts and welding equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and effectively apply to assigned work
  • Ability to navigate multiple windows in company ERP system to access production and resource data
  • Ability to perform repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity, and including standing and lifting
  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet strict time deadlines and production volumes
  • Requires judgment to comply with instructions, prescribed routines, methods and practices
  • Minimal/No travel required

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a welding and fabrication vocational or technical training program
  • Experience welding in a pressure vessel fabrication shop

Responsibilities

  • Works from standard drawings, specifications, WPS and verbal instructions.
  • Uses various types of welding equipment and a variety of common hand and power tools.
  • Performs standardized final welding operations and fit up work using fixtures and jigs to weld tanks and heat exchangers primarily using the FCAW/GMAW welding process, with or without backing, in the flat and horizontal positions.
  • Read and interpret basic drawings and perform simple layouts.
  • With assistance and supervision, may perform more complicated welding using various equipment.
  • Reads appropriate Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and is capable of interpreting welding variables and assures that all parameters within the WPS are adhered to.
  • Monitors quality of work, makes corrective adjustments and reports equipment malfunctions, defective materials or other unusual conditions to supervisor.
  • Maintains necessary records, completes transactions within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and accesses company intranet as needed for work instructions.
  • Maintains work area in neat, clean, and orderly condition and observes all safety regulations and practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
