About The Position

The Senior Vice President, Care Excellence is a system-level executive leader reporting to the EVP, Chief Operating Officer, accountable for enterprise alignment of quality improvement, clinical excellence, patient experience, and high-reliability performance across Carle Health. This role provides clear strategic and operational alignment for how quality, safety, patient experience, and clinical outcomes are defined, measured, and executed across all hospitals, ambulatory sites, and care settings. The SVP, Care Excellence ensures that organizational priorities, standards, and expectations are consistently understood and operationalized, resulting in reliable, high-quality, and compassionate care for patients and families at every point of care. Requirements

  • Advanced Degree - Related, MSN, MHA, MBA, DNP, or Equivalent
  • Preparation supporting executive leadership in quality, safety, clinical operations, or patient experience
  • Executive leadership within a large complex, integrated healthcare system - 10 years
  • Demonstrated success aligning enterprise quality improvement and clinical excellence
  • Demonstrated success aligning enterprise patient experience, or high-reliability strategies at scale.
  • Physician dyad partnership structure to support achievement of clinical and operational objectives.
  • Proven ability to align enterprise strategy with operational execution.
  • Deep expertise in quality improvement, reliability science, and performance management.
  • Strong collaborative leader who builds alignment across clinical, operational, and physician partners.
  • Data-driven, outcomes-focused, and deeply committed to patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides enterprise leadership to align quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical excellence strategies with system goals, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Ensures consistent performance expectations and outcomes across regions, service lines, and care settings.
  • Establishes standardized frameworks, improvement methodologies, and accountability structures that enable sustained clinical excellence and reduced variation.
  • Maintains a formal dyad partnership with the ACMO and Chief Quality Officer to align High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles, safety culture, and continuous readiness efforts.
  • Ensures enterprise alignment of ISO principles, accreditation standards, regulatory compliance, and survey preparedness activities (e.g., DNV, IDPH).
  • Uses professional governance processes, performance dashboards, and escalation pathways to promote transparency and accountability.
  • Serves as the executive sponsor responsible for aligning patient experience and service excellence priorities across the system.
  • Partners with operational, clinical, and experience leaders to embed Carle Experience principles into daily practice and leadership expectations.
  • Drives consistency in patient and family experience across inpatient, outpatient, and virtual care environments; amplifies the work of regional Patient & Family Advisory Councils.
  • Directs the enterprise strategy for effective clinical onboarding, competency development, and ongoing professional education.
  • Oversees clinical pathway and professional development programs, facilitating strong relationships with academic partners and working with regional operational and HR leaders to assure effective talent pipelines.
  • Oversees Clinical and Business Intelligence (Data Analytics) to align performance measurement, reporting, and insights with enterprise improvement priorities.
  • Ensures leaders and frontline teams have timely, actionable data to support quality, experience, throughput, and resource stewardship.
  • Promotes a culture of data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Provides matrix support and leadership to align inpatient care management and outpatient care coordination strategies with system access, throughput, and continuity-of-care goals.
  • Partners with operational and medical leaders to reduce barriers, and improve transitions to enhance reliability across the care continuum.
  • Collaborates closely with executive, physician, nursing, and operational leaders to align priorities, expectations, and execution across the organization.
  • Influences outcomes through partnership and shared accountability rather than direct line authority.
  • Sponsors multidisciplinary improvement initiatives that are aligned to system strategy and scalable across regions and service lines.
