About The Position
The Sr. Universal Banker at Mechanics Bank performs a comprehensive range of new account transactions and identifies sales and service opportunities for retail banking customers, including deposit and lending products. This role involves senior-level transactions such as complex account opening, maintenance, customer problem resolution, and business lending package reviews. The Sr. Universal Banker may also provide teller line support, including cash handling and operational duties like approving transactions and dual control support. The position requires extensive knowledge of banking products, services, and full compliance with all banking regulations and internal policies. Delivering excellent customer service and contributing significantly to branch sales performance are key aspects of the role.
Requirements
- High School Degree or GED required.
- 2 years minimum bank operations and sales experience required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and customer service.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a team member.
- Ability to make decisions and review and approve other employee decisions.
- Extensive knowledge of Bank deposit products and services.
- Thorough knowledge of Bank's standard loan products.
- Knowledge of small business and consumer credit principles and practices.
- Extensive knowledge of alternative Bank services and products and vendor provided products.
- Ability to persuade, including the value and benefits of using the Bank's services and products.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State banking regulations.

Responsibilities
- Represent the Bank and its products and services with pride and enthusiasm.
- Sense and respond to customer needs.
- Identify and pursue new or related customer opportunities for additional products and/or services.
- Provide comprehensive deposit services to individuals, fiduciary, and small businesses in a retail branch.
- Promote the full range of deposit and lending products and services that best meets the client's needs.
- Receive, process and close consumer loan and small business loan applications and review loan packages for required documentation.
- Clarify to customer basic qualifications for the loan(s), rates, terms and conditions.
- Keep customer apprised of loan application status.
- Assist customers with account maintenance, adoption of digital banking channels, and other complex account issues.
- Deepen relationships and resolve concerns presented by clients.
- Provide teller line support and perform routine teller transactions as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining and balancing a cash supply for transactions performed.
- Review client transactions for red flags and fraudulent items.
- Maintain awareness of current criminal scams used against banking clients.
- Prevent clients from becoming victims of fraud.
- Escalate concerns to management for resolution.
- Maintain compliance with established internal operational standards and Federal and State regulations to protect the interest of the Bank and customers; review the work of others for compliance.
- May lead and direct the activities of Customer Service Representatives and other Universal Bankers.
