The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team. This role will be hybrid in LinkedIn's Omaha, Nebraska office. We are seeking an experienced Trust Investigator to join our Scaled Investigations Team at the Omaha site. They will apply advanced investigative tradecraft and case management to uncover and mitigate coordinated, persistent, and high-impact abuse, ensuring a safe and professional experience for LinkedIn members. This role is pivotal in managing high priority anti-abuse investigations and driving intelligence insights that improve the effectiveness of Trust systems and the LinkedIn platform. Additionally, they will advance the technical skills of team members and lead cross-functional initiatives in Trust. Our Trust Investigators play a key role in protecting LinkedIn’s members and our platform from adversarial abuse; we are looking for a self-starter who takes ownership over their work and enjoys being part of a fast-paced, collaborative, global team that values results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in cyber security, criminal justice or other related technical disciplines, or equivalent technical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in threat investigations, preferably within a trust and safety, social media, or online platform context.
  • Subject matter expertise in account, behavior or content abuse in a social media or user generated content context.
  • Experience with open-source investigation techniques and familiarity with a variety of internet research tools.
  • Experience with threat intelligence platforms, digital forensics, and investigative tools.
  • Skilled at synthesizing complex data sets into clear and actionable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Experience leading proactive threat and fraud hunting against large scale threats.
  • Experience with scripting or data analysis tools (Python, SQL, etc.) to support investigative workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in cyber security, criminal justice or related technical disciplines; AND 3+ years experience in one or more of the following areas OR combination thereof:
  • Content moderation and policy enforcement
  • Counter-fraud or financial crime enforcement
  • Strong technical acumen and the ability to translate data and investigative outcomes into actionable insights for Engineering and AI partners as well as senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to inspire and influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience working in global teams spanning multiple locations/time zones.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex cross-functional dependencies and drive collaboration across diverse teams.
  • Experience working or managing projects that have enterprise-wide impact and/or multi-organization cross functional stakeholders
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK and cyber kill chain, and ability to adapt them to social media threats.
  • Relevant certifications such as GIAC Cyber Threat Intelligence (GCTI), Certified Threat Intelligence Analyst (CTIA), or related credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or facilitate the resolution of high-priority investigative cases supported by the Scaled Investigations Team, involving coordinated campaigns, abuse networks, and complex attacks.
  • Assist with the case management of investigative request escalations related to coordinated and complex abuse, working with our incident response function when appropriate.
  • Generate proactive investigative leads, track coordinated threat (CT) activity, and develop technical playbooks to scale investigative work.
  • Produce timely and actionable threat intelligence reports and briefings to inform Trust leadership and drive strategic investments in our defense and our products.
  • Advance team investigative tradecraft using querying and data analysis languages like SQL and Python for proactive abuse discovery.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product management, incident management, data science, legal, and security operations to ensure shared understanding and guide product strategy.
  • Develop and refine threat hunting methodologies, tools, and frameworks tailored to the social media landscape, incorporating data from internal signals, external intelligence feeds, and open-source investigations.
  • Mentor and guide investigators, fostering a culture of deep investigative rigor and continuous learning.
  • Integrate threat intelligence with platform signals to enhance detection capabilities and proactively prevent abuse or harm.
  • Stay current on threat actor tactics, techniques, and emerging trends relevant to social media manipulation and abuse.
  • Ensure investigation activities align with privacy, legal, and ethical standards.

  • The pay range for this role is $133,000 to $216,000.
  • Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
  • This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
  • The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
