About The Position

Under general supervision trims and prunes trees from the ground and by climbing; work is performed throughout the community as a member of a specialist crew, working independently or as lead worker of a sub crew; and performs related work as required. Work involves regular contact with residents.

Requirements

• Educational development which produces the ability to read, write and apply common sense understanding to the carrying out of oral or written instructions.
• Considerable experience in grounds maintenance work or equivalent combination of education and experience which produces the following:
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
• Knowledge of the types and methods of care of the trees found in Community.
• Knowledge of the field maintenance requirements of assigned equipment.
• Ability to perform manual work requiring physical strength and stamina appropriate to the area of assignment.
• Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others in English.
• Skill in climbing.
• Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment appropriate to the nature of assignment.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
• Successful completion of a written and agility test.
• Stands for periods of up to 5 hours; continually lifts and carries up to 20 lbs.; occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 lbs.; continually balances, climbs, uses hands to finger, grasp, pull, reach and stoop; frequently pushes; occasional crawls, crouches and kneels; works daily at heights of up to 100 feet.

Responsibilities

• When assigned as lead worker, coordinates the work of two or more workers engaged in trimming and pruning trees working from the ground, ladders and by climbing; plants and removes trees.
• Cleans sidewalks and streets after trimming or removal of trees, loads truck and drives to disposal site. Maintains job site and/or work area in a safe and orderly manner.
• Operates various types of equipment when removing and trimming trees; cleans, adjusts and maintains assigned equipment.
• Follow up on resident complaint requests, corrects problems or refers to a foreman or supervisor; notes disposition.
• Works effectively with co-workers, customers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listens to and objectively considers ideas and suggestions from others; keeps commitments; keeps others informed of work progress, timetables and issues; addresses problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions; addresses others by name, title or other respectful identifier, and; respects the diversity of our work force in actions, words and deeds.
• Regular Attendance Required. All duties performed on site for the Community.
