WSP is seeking a Sr. Transportation Project Manager to join our Salt Lake City Transportation Team. Be involved in projects with our Civil Engineering Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. The Sr. Transportation Project Manager will provide leadership within a sector of organization to ensure civil engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, infrastructure projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and company standards for design, safety, and functionality. We have a versatile, talented Transportation team in Salt Lake City, who work on projects ranging from large freeway design/build projects to local municipal sidewalks. We have managers for alternative delivery projects, program management (owner’s representatives), municipal work, and traditional design-bid-build projects. We are seeking a Transportation Project Manager for traditional projects who works wells with our current team and can generate work with our key clients.

  • Contribute to the management, growth and development of the Civil Engineering team.
  • Provide leadership, partnering closely with the Local Business Leader and Senior Management Team.
  • Focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators and contribute to the overall success of the SW Mountain District and West Region.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Support clients and the industry through innovative thought and advancement of transformative transportation projects.
  • Collaborate with other local offices and in-house national transportation delivery experts to provide clients with innovative and future-focused solutions.
  • Support transportation business development efforts, strategy development, client engagement and pursuits in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.
  • Serve as key staff on pursuits: project manager, deputy project manager, design lead, advisor, etc.
  • Assist in the process of procuring contracts with preferred contractors for transportation projects.
  • Engage with clients to develop new business leads and project pursuits.
  • Develop strategic alliances and project partners to secure new work.
  • Represent the firm in the market through involvement in client and industry events and associations.
  • Lead the delivery of transportation projects and project teams for agencies in the SW Mountain District.
  • Lead key projects as Project Manager, Sr Lead or other roles as appropriate.
  • Be an active participant in contract negotiations.
  • Lead staff and have responsibility for project management responsibilities, including oversight of project financial performance, adherence to project management and quality control plans, and adequacy of risk management plans.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure quality project deliverables, including PS&E documents, engineering reports, project memorandums, etc.
  • Manage the collection, compilation and analysis of data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Apply high-level civil engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases.
  • Manage professional civil engineering work and conduct more complex/comprehensive investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions.
  • Review and approve construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Manage design and construction of infrastructure projects, from project inception thru project completion.
  • Manage the development and implementation of advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies.
  • Lead larger-scale civil engineering projects, managing project budgets; monitoring external events; and tracking hours and expenses.
  • Manage engineering review of permit applications, engineering design plans and specifications, standby plans and engineering contracts.
  • Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of engineering/construction challenges and programs.
  • Ensure technical reports and presentations explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Develop a client base for providing high level civil engineering services.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • Support WSP’s marketing team, as required, when preparing proposals and/or responses to client issued Requests for Qualifications.
  • Represent WSP and participate in Industry Engagement Events and professional societies.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in transportation engineering and civil design.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Highly proficient with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Highly proficient with transportation infrastructure design.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads).
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
