Job Summary Monitor and control bulk power system under normal and emergency conditions in coordination and compliance with FERC, NERC, RFC, and PJM.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a System Operator
  • Minimum 3 years of extensive experience and knowledge with operating a power system.
  • Experience performing load flow studies.
  • PJM and NERC certifications.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively; exercise independent action, judgment and risk management; act decisively; and interact effectively with all Transmission System stakeholders
  • Technical knowledge of Electric Power Systems
  • Successful completion of the PJM Interconnection Training Program for System Operators
  • PJM System Operator Certification and must complete mandatory PJM yearly training requirements and Continuing Education Hours
  • NERC Transmission Operator Certification and must complete mandatory NERC yearly training requirements and Continuing Education Hours
  • Load flow analysis experience, and real time operational experience including Substation/Generation/Relay skills

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in Engineering or Technology
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a System Operator
  • Expertise in Transmission, Generation, Distribution Operations, System Relay Protection and/or Station Mechanical Skills

Responsibilities

  • Promptly (real time) analyze disturbances on the Bulk Electric System to determine if NERC, DOE, RFC and PJM reporting is required
  • Monitor and Operate the Bulk Electric System in accordance with the PJM Operating Agreement, implement corrective strategies for disturbances and Emergency procedures for contingencies, actual overloads, emergency outages and equipment tripping, maintain PJM and NERC certifications, perform AC load flow analysis and interpret results.
  • Understand and adhere to the Standards of Conduct as described in FERC Order 717, and Data Confidentiality Agreements
  • Maintain power system reliability by utilizing/evaluating AC power system load flows.
  • Operate Bulk Electric System in accordance with PJM manuals, agreements and good utility practice.
  • Conduct AC power system load flows for analysis of emergency system outages, emergency conditions and pre-scheduled outages.
  • Coordinate corrective strategies for system contingencies, emergency outages and equipment tripping with PJM.
  • Demonstrate inquisitiveness, decisiveness, positive attitude and teamwork
  • Take all actions required to mitigate Bulk Electric System reliability emergencies (real-time and day-ahead) unless such actions would violate safety, equipment, regulatory or statutory requirements.
  • Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts
  • Must be available to respond for emergency and relief assignments
  • NERC, FERC and RFC Mandatory Reliability Standards compliance is subject to fines up to $1 Million per day per violation.
