About The Position

Our client is seeking to add a Senior Thermal Engineer to address thermal engineering design challenges of high-end switching products in Santa Clara, California. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager. In this role, you will work closely with the Electrical design and hardware validation teams to ensure fulfillment of overall system requirements. As the Senior Thermal Engineer you will be responsible for addressing all thermal design related issues on different projects and shape thermal strategy for future products.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in high-powered liquid cooling systems—not just a few projects, but deep understanding of the full lifecycle and deployment profile.
  • Ability to contribute to and lead projects involving liquid cooling, especially as the company transitions from traditional air-cooled designs.
  • Familiarity with plumbing and system architecture used in enterprise-grade cooling (e.g., IBM-style implementations).

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on or advocacy-level experience with thermal simulation tools like FloTHERM, Fluent, SmartCF, and others.
  • Strong grasp of thermal equations and ability to explain and articulate design decisions.
  • Quick analysis and iterative design capabilities.
  • Experience in customer-facing roles and pressure communication support.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to train and influence the team with practical, technical insights not found in textbooks.
  • Excitement for innovation and scaling liquid cooling across new product lines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop thermal cooling strategies for next-generation, high-performance switching products.
  • Work independently to perform complete thermal analysis and design using Icepak.
  • Support thermal analysis requests from hardware team, product management team and other cross functional teams with either spreadsheet calculations or detailed simulation results.
  • Capable of conducting different engineering experimental tests to verify design (e.g., components, system level, etc.) and correlate with computational results.

Benefits

  • To be determined once a candidate has been chosen
