About The Position

At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Test Technician to join the Lighting Sector Kenall Team in Kenosha, WI. The Sr. Test Technician will perform testing functions required for new product development and to integrate new technologies into existing product lines. Ensure all products meet or exceed applicable safety, performance, and compliance standards (UL, ETL, CSA, IEC, IES, NEC) for commercial lighting applications. What Will You Do? Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct technical tests on lighting products, including EMI, photometric, water/dust ingress, HALT/HASS, and other relevant procedures. Troubleshoot and analyze product/performance-related field complaints; recommend solutions. Perform failure analysis on fixtures from field or production line issues. Compliance & Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical documentation and compliance files for product certifications (UL, ETL, CSA, IEC, IES, NEC). Assist with submissions, quotations, and file maintenance for certification agencies. Facilitate and manage factory inspections and audits for UL/ETL compliance. Stay current with lighting standards, regulations, and industry developments. Lab Operations: Organize and maintain the test lab, equipment, software, tools, and supplies. Schedule and prioritize lab activities to ensure proper operation, safety, and cleanliness. Ensure calibration and maintenance of lab equipment. Collaboration & Training: Work with product designers, engineers, and compliance personnel to support product development and ensure standards are met. Assist, supervise, and train Junior Lab Technicians. Engage in cross-training and backup functions as directed. Continuous Improvement: Participate in ongoing training and development. Set goals and objectives with management; seek ways to improve quality and productivity. Maintain good housekeeping and follow safety rules and procedures. Report abnormalities in equipment, machines, programs, and processes.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field preferred; high school diploma minimum.
  • 2–4 years related testing experience in a research and development environment preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of UL, ETL, CSA, IEC, IES, and NEC standards and testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with lighting technology, photometric testing, and compliance documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Professional appearance and attitude; ability to work with customers, vendors, and employees at all levels.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • High level of self-initiative, dependability, and flexibility.
  • Resourceful, organized, detail-oriented, and accurate.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and balance multiple tasks.
  • Team-oriented with a positive, “can do” attitude.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver a 50-pound lighting fixture unassisted.
