About The Position

The Water Conservation Senior Technician is an integral part of the Water Conservation team and Fort Collins Utilities (Utilities), providing customer service and efficiency program support to help meet the goals of the Fort Collins Utilities Water Efficiency Plan. The position uses innovative techniques to improve water use efficiency throughout the community, including science-based methodologies and industry best practices for managing water demands and improving community resiliency. The position involves independent and collaborative work with numerous entities, internal and external to the City organization, to support programs, policies, plans, goals, and regulation-based requirements. The position requires a culturally competent, water professional who can interact with diverse groups and individuals to provide community benefits and excellent service to Utilities' customers. Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and reporting.
  • Ability to interpret and apply established regulations, codes, and procedures.
  • Proficiency with standard office software, especially Word and Excel; ability to navigate databases and record systems.
  • Ability to perform basic statistical or analytical tasks under guidance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety procedures and commitment to working safely in all environments.
  • College degree or equivalent work experience. Some positions may require functionally related certification or advanced degrees
  • Four (4) years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in environmental science, natural sciences, public policy, engineering, or related field from an accredited college.

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical work to support City programs, services, and compliance requirements.
  • Collects, tracks, and analyzes data; prepares reports for internal use and for submission to local, state, or federal agencies.
  • Assists in implementing City policies, codes, and ordinances, including water restrictions or other assigned regulations.
  • Conducts field and/or laboratory work, following established safety and quality protocols.
  • Provides information and responds to public inquiries related to assigned programs.
  • Supports outreach, education, and customer service efforts with residents, businesses, and internal staff.
  • Monitors program performance, identifies basic trends, and provides recommendations for improvement to supervisor or lead staff.
  • Maintains accurate records, databases, and documentation to ensure compliance and reporting accuracy.
  • Participates in training, safety programs, and team meetings to support a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and continual improvement.
