Sr. Technical Marketing Engineer, Unity Catalog

Databricks
187d$130,400 - $199,800

About The Position

At Databricks, Unity Catalog is the foundation of data intelligence. At its core, it addresses who can access what data and AI products and how we keep them secure, trackable, and compliant, no matter where they live. But it also reaches beyond governance to connect usage patterns, lineage, data sharing, cost controls, and business semantics into a unified picture of data and AI across an organization. Often, when customers are asked why they choose Databricks, Unity Catalog is the answer. We’re looking for a Senior Technical Marketing Engineer to help us tell the story of the unified governance category. You will make the innovation and benefits of Unity Catalog real through demos, workshops, guides, and technical content that showcase Unity Catalog, Delta Sharing, and Marketplace for fellow practitioners. This role reports to the Director of Technical Marketing and works closely with product, engineering, field teams, and product marketing. You’ll build hands-on solutions that help users understand and adopt data governance at scale. You’ll also represent Databricks in deep technical conversations with customers, analysts, and at public forums—through conferences, webinars, and other speaking opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in technical marketing, solutions architecture, or product management in a data platform or enterprise software company.
  • Hands-on experience with data governance, data security, and governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Databricks Unity Catalog or other governance systems (e.g., OneLake Catalog, Apache Polaris, AWS Lake Formation, Google Dataplex, Microsoft Purview, Alation or Collibra).
  • Understanding of data sharing protocols and privacy-preserving collaboration patterns.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, especially for technical audiences.
  • Comfortable reading and writing code (Python, SQL preferred) to create demos and prototypes.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple workstreams and cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Delta Sharing, clean rooms, or secure collaboration across organizations.
  • Experience with compliance and audit requirements in regulated industries.
  • Certifications in Databricks, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Prior field-facing or customer-enabling experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain demo environments and example solutions for Unity Catalog, Delta Sharing, Cleanrooms and Marketplace.
  • Create technical artifacts, such as reference architectures, how-to guides, implementation playbooks, and tutorials, that clearly explain governance and data sharing workflows.
  • Develop technical content (e.g. blogs, videos, walkthroughs) to support customer education and adoption.
  • Work with product and engineering teams to test new features, provide feedback, and translate capabilities into practical usage patterns.
  • Partner with field engineering and product marketing to build enablement and launch materials.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly and confidently in customer meetings, analyst briefings, and public speaking engagements such as webinars and conferences.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for field teams and customer-facing engagements focused on governance, compliance, and data sharing.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits and perks that meet the needs of all employees.
  • Eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and other benefits.
