About The Position

The Global Coring Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as Core Laboratories’ global technical authority and advocate for subsurface coring across traditional oil and gas and emerging energy-transition applications, including carbon capture and storage (CCS), geothermal energy, lithium brines, critical minerals, and other subsurface resource developments. The role is responsible for promoting the technical, regulatory, and economic value of coring, influencing operator and regulator decision-making, supporting business development, and ensuring best-in-class coring and wellsite core handling practices are consistently applied worldwide.

Requirements

  • Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, or a related subsurface discipline.
  • 15+ years’ experience in subsurface data acquisition, drilling, or reservoir characterization roles.
  • Deep technical expertise in coring operations, core handling, preservation, and laboratory analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate the value of coring to technical, commercial, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience supporting bids, tenders, or client-facing technical sales.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience across multiple domains (oil & gas, CCS, geothermal, mining or lithium projects).
  • Involvement in regulatory engagement or permitting processes.
  • Track record of publications or industry presentations.
  • Experience linking core data to reservoir models, resource estimates, and project sanction decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the global technical authority on coring strategy, execution, and value realization across conventional and unconventional oil and gas, CCS, geothermal, lithium brine, and critical mineral projects.
  • Advocate for the inclusion of coring programs to address reservoir characterization, seal integrity, injectivity, containment assurance, resource evaluation, completions optimization, and long-term monitoring requirements.
  • Develop and communicate clear, defensible value propositions demonstrating the return on investment (ROI) of coring relative to alternative data-acquisition methods across multiple subsurface use cases.
  • Support clients in defining coring objectives, target depths, core types (conventional, sidewall, pressure coring), and core handling and preservation techniques aligned with project risks and regulatory expectations.
  • Advocate for the application of Invasion Profiler™ technologies to quantify and interpret mud-filtrate invasion during coring operations, improving core-quality assessment and downstream laboratory data reliability.
  • Ensure alignment of global coring practices with industry best practices, evolving regulations, and Core Laboratories’ technical standards.
  • Support global sales and business development teams across oil & gas and energy-transition markets with technical leadership and subject-matter expertise.
  • Engage directly with operators, coring companies, developers, and regulators to influence subsurface data-acquisition strategies and project design at early decision stages.
  • Provide technical and commercial leadership during tenders, proposal development, and client presentations.
  • Represent Core Laboratories at industry forums, technical workshops, and regulatory engagements as a recognized authority on coring and subsurface diagnostics
  • Define and maintain global technical standards and best practices for coring across diverse applications and regulatory environments.
  • Provide technical assurance and troubleshooting support for complex, high-risk, or first-of-a-kind projects.
  • Review post-job performance, core recovery, and data quality to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure effective integration of coring data with petrophysics, geology, geochemistry, geomechanics, reservoir engineering, and monitoring workflows.
  • Publish technical papers, white papers, and case studies covering both traditional and energy transition applications of coring.
  • Present at industry conferences, technical forums, and regulatory workshops.
  • Track emerging technologies, regulatory trends, and competitor offerings in subsurface data acquisition.
  • Collaborate with R&D and technology teams to advance coring tools, preservation methods, and digital workflows.
