About The Position

The Senior System Administrator’s role is to manage in-house computer software systems, servers, storage devices and server connections to ensure high availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of guidelines and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. Responsible for providing direction and guidance, as well as serves as point person during project implementation. Provides input into the development, implementation and execution of procedures, strategies, and specific objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years’ of experience in server administration.
  • Strong experience managing VMWare environments, to include managing and supporting vCenter, physical ESXi hosts and Storage Arrays.
  • Display a wide degree of creativity and latitude; think independently and ‘outside the box’ for solutions; use familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures; rely on varied yet sometimes limited experience and sound judgment to accomplish goals and perform a variety of tasks.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting Windows Server and Desktop operating systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting server and desktop hardware.
  • Working knowledge of network environments.
  • Stay abreast of technology trends, advances in technology and best practices.
  • Ability to perform and/or assist with the tasks of Engineers and Technicians at prior levels.
  • Familiar with managing various SaaS services, including Microsoft 365, spam filtering, managed AV, etc.
  • Familiar with MS SQL server, windows clustering, domain controller setup, and group policy.
  • Familiar with NAS and SAN storage management, and MS DFS.
  • Familiar with managing various SaaS services, including Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, spam filtering, managed AV, etc.
  • Familiar with VMware Environments.
  • Familiar with mail migrations and setup.
  • Familiar with Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Group Policy.
  • Familiar with server administration and deployment.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and correct hardware and software issues on servers.
  • Build and deploy new servers on the network as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Microsoft and VMWare certification is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a key team member, responsible for infrastructure, support and service needed to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a technology consultant, in the role of supporting the networks and other technology assets.
  • Provide technical expertise and assistance on escalated tickets.
  • Ensure critical issues are resolved, meeting service level agreements.
  • Monitor and summarize the progress of all projects.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with team members, vendors, and others involved in the projects.
  • Troubleshoot complex software, hardware, and network issues.
  • Design, implement, configure, and maintain various Azure SaaS Cloud Services such as Azure AD, AIP, ATP, ASR, CAS, EM+S, Teams, Intune, AAD Connect, Exchange Online and O365.
  • Deploy and maintain Azure IaaS Virtual Machines and Azure Application and Networking Services to support growth into the cloud.
  • Research products and new technologies to increase efficiency of business and operations.
  • Be the escalation point for other IT Systems Engineers and Service Desk Engineers.
  • Monitor the performance of Exchange servers to ensure that they meet performance standards, such as response time for messages sent between servers.
  • Install new applications on the Exchange server or upgrading existing applications.
  • Provide technical support for Exchange server administration issues to users who are having trouble accessing email or other applications.
  • Install new hardware components on Exchange servers to increase their storage capacity or processing speed.
  • Maintain Exchange server security by monitoring activity on the system and updating anti-virus software regularly.
  • Monitor Exchange server performance to ensure that it meets requirements for speed and reliability.
  • Administration of windows server (Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Group Policy).
  • Be the point person for Disaster Recovery. This includes the recovery of production servers and services until they are up and running before handing them over to the server owners.
  • Manage the physical and virtual environment (VMware) of 300 plus servers.
  • Manage storage allocations in accordance with best practices.
  • Manage vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services.
  • Manage the physical environment of the server racks including cable management, documentation, labeling, and configuration for console and remote access.
  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores.
  • Practice server asset management, including maintenance of server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware upgrades, patches and reconfigurations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation about current environment setup, standard operating procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure the security of the server infrastructure by implementing industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
