The Senior Structures Technician at Virgin Galactic plays a crucial role in supporting the Manufacturing team in Mesa, Arizona. This position focuses on the bonding and assembly processes essential for the production of spacecraft airframes, ensuring safety and quality in all operations. The technician will be responsible for various hands-on manufacturing tasks, collaborating with team members to meet project goals and maintain high standards of execution and accountability.

  • Assemble Composite parts and assemblies of varying complexities and sizes
  • Utilize Shop Tools/Machinery safely and correctly, including drills, die grinders, and calipers
  • Drill a variety of hole sizes in both composite and metal structures
  • Work with multiple fastener types including Hi-Lite, Hi-Lok, Composi-Lok
  • Provide input on technical and operational knowledge for assessment and repair/maintenance
  • Ensure quality and efficiency of installations, including troubleshooting
  • Adhere to assembly instructions for accurate completion of complex project assemblies
  • Practice safety behavior and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) awareness/prevention
  • Collaborate to achieve goals and complete assigned tasks
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years of experience with aircraft fabrication and assembly
  • Hands-on experience in a precision yet manual manufacturing setting
  • Understanding and familiarity with multiple types of fasteners
  • Knowledge of proper drill speeds and feeds for materials
  • Understanding of hole angularity and tolerances
  • Proficient in using specialized tools and equipment for aircraft assembly and repair
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and/or models
  • Knowledge of current manufacturing practices and willingness to learn cutting-edge techniques
  • Hands-on experience in a precision yet manual manufacturing setting
  • Use of hand drills, power feed drills (PFD), Jiffy/E-Tech tools
  • Knowledge of providing quality repairs of malfunctioning systems
  • Ability to collaborate on technical projects with fellow technicians
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
