About The Position

RIVUS Consulting LLC is currently seeking a PT Structural Inspector/Engineer to augment our team. RIVUS is an established small business providing engineering, environmental, and technology consulting services to a wide range of clients. Our services include infrastructure engineering, water and wastewater engineering, site/civil engineering, asset management, and program/construction management. Our engineers, planners, GIS/IT professionals, landscape architects, inspectors, and construction managers deliver sustainable solutions for federal, state, and municipal clients. RIVUS has an immediate opening for a part-time Sr. Structural (Condition Assessment) Inspector/Engineer to support a public sector client (Water utilites and other municipal infrastructure programs). The anticipated start date is March 2026. This position requires strong technical expertise in structural systems, professional judgment, and the ability to clearly communicate inspection findings both verbally and in written reports while working in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Maryland or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Minimum 8–12 years of structural engineering experience, with focus on inspections and assessments.
  • Experience with municipal water/wastewater facilities preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, and applicable codes.
  • Proficiency in structural inspection and evaluation techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and field documentation tools.
  • Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in operating treatment plant environments.
  • Field work may involve exposure to weather conditions and industrial environments.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections of structural systems at water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and related public infrastructure.
  • Conduct condition assessments of concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structural components.
  • Identify structural deterioration including cracking, spalling, corrosion, settlement, joint failure, coating breakdown, and other deficiencies.
  • Evaluate structural integrity and serviceability of tanks, basins, buildings, vaults, and pump station structures.
  • Perform or oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) as needed.
  • Review structural installations and rehabilitation work for compliance with applicable building codes and structural standards.
  • Interpret construction plans, as-built drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports including findings, condition ratings, and repair recommendations.
  • Communicate findings and recommended improvements to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Support development of cost opinions for repair, rehabilitation, or replacement.
  • Adhere to safety protocols including confined space and fall protection requirements.
