About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. You will be responsible for performing and coordinating structural analysis on the fluid systems of the New Glenn launch vehicle. This is a hands-on position that involves all aspects of structural analysis, including: configuration development and trade studies, developing novel and efficient approaches to challenging analysis problems, crafting analysis reports to support drawing releases, supporting structural test development, performing post-test analysis, dispositioning manufacturing defects, analyzing structural repairs, and more. Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in the structural and dynamic analysis of pressurized components and systems including valves, tubing/piping, pressure vessels
  • Experience with FEA analysis tools (ANSYS preferred) including structural, dynamic, and thermal analyses
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo / Solidworks / NX)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, material selection and component testing
  • Ability to use structural hand-calcs to make quick effective decisions
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the analysis of components involving welding
  • Experience with cryogenic systems
  • Experience in the design of fluids components (valves, bellows, COPV's, tubing)
  • Experience in hardware defect resolution
