About The Position

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise. Our sights are set high and our problems are hard, and we believe that diversity in the workplace is what makes us smarter, drives better insights, and will ultimately lift us all to success. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences, and supports and celebrates all of our team members.

Requirements

  • MS / PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related fields
  • 5+ years industry experience
  • Proven expertise in helicopter rotor aeromechanics field (including aerodynamics, dynamics, loads, stability, performance)
  • Experience with static and dynamic loads derivation for fixed-wing vehicles and/or rotorcraft, with focus on rotor loads
  • Experience with comprehensive rotor analysis software (RCAS / CAMRAD II / FlightLab / DYMORE or similar codes)
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Matlab scripting
  • Demonstrated experience with flight test loads data processing and interpretation
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to bring together small multidisciplinary teams on high impact, but time limited projects.
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in a fast-paced design environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with FAA aircraft and/or rotorcraft loads and dynamics regulations (FAR Part 23, 27, 33, 35) and associated advisory materials.
  • Experience in developing loads for eVTOL vehicles, including loads for airframe components, tilting mechanisms, rotor blades, as well as variable pitch mechanismsExperience with Nastran (MSC or NX) and Patran/FEMAP
  • Demonstrated experience in design and implementation of flight test instrumentation package for rotor loads survey (both rotating and non-rotating frame)
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing of articulated rotors or propellers (from test objective definition to instrumentation selection and design, from test execution to data processing and interpretation)
  • Experience with measurements and data analysis techniques
  • Experience with Ground Vibration Testing, planning and/or execution
  • CAD (NX preferred)
  • Pilot’s license

Responsibilities

  • Support loads development for propellers through rotordynamics simulations.
  • Correlate simulation models to wind tunnel, ground test, and flight test data.
  • Build static and fatigue loads databases for airframe structure design.
  • Support aeroelastic analyses (flutter and whirl flutter) of the vehicle.
  • Define and develop vehicle design load cases per requirements and maintain associated loads related certification documentation.
  • Support wind tunnel and flight test planning and execution in the areas of propeller loads, aeroelasticity, and aeromechanics, including test plan development, instrumentation and data acquisition definition, test monitoring and execution, data analysis and interpretation, and test report writing.
