Department Overview New Product Introduction (NPI) Stack Team works on advanced process development for new stack and stack component designs, new materials and innovative high volume manufacturing methods for our factories of the future. Process scale up and transfer to high volume manufacturing is our team’s core expertise. Our work is highly collaborative in nature where we partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability and Supply Chain Teams. We are looking for a Sr. Staff Process Development Engineer, NPI to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to Director, Development Engineer and is based in San Jose, CA. This is a fully on-site, in office role 5 days a week. Location: This position will be based in San Jose, CA and require significant presence at our site Fremont, CA

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Chemical, Materials Science Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 6-10 years working in Process and/or Product Development.
  • Proficiency in DOE, statistical analysis, process control using JMP or other software
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively within teams, and/or independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong level of ownership, accountability and drive for exceeding expectations
  • Demonstrated experience in process development and/or process transfer to high volume manufacturing

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in formulating inks and safe handling of chemicals and materials.
  • Ability to manage time well on multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new process paradigms for improved fuel cell stack performance and reliability, high volume manufacturability and lower product cost.
  • Perform process mapping and optimization through DOEs, create specifications, improve yield and qualify new vendors.
  • Perform failure analysis and follow through materials characterization to support process development.
  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering team consisting of equipment, mechanical, controls and manufacturing engineers to develop new production equipment and scale up processes.
  • Develop, optimize and scale up novel electrode ink formulations and screen-printing processes.
  • Create PFMEAs, work instructions and other associated process documentation to facilitate process transfers to Manufacturing.
  • Work with partners in Engineering, Quality and Ops to conduct 8D investigations, resolve yield issues and drive change control to implement process improvements.
