Overview Synaptics is looking for a Sr. Staff Information Systems Engineer to join our dynamic and growing organization. You will be responsible for supporting Synaptics infrastructure and the engineering environment. Working within our IT team provides a unique opportunity to work across the engineering disciplines from IT infrastructure. This position reports to the Director, IT Infrastructure Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent
  • 12+ years of experience designing, deploying, and managing computer infrastructures and services
  • Hands-on experience with NAS based storage technologies.
  • Proven experience optimizing performance for large-scale computer, networking, and storage systems.
  • Experience designing AI/ML clusters, heterogeneous computing environments, or exascale-class systems.
  • Experience with cloud or hybrid HPC (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OCI).
  • Experience supporting scientific, engineering, EDA, financial modeling, or simulation workloads.
  • Skilled in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Expertise with HPC cluster architectures, including compute nodes, file systems, and high-speed interconnects
  • Deep knowledge of workload managers (Slurm, designsync, LSF) and Linux systems engineering
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, authentication and directory services
  • Strong understanding of ETX, NX, VNC
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
  • Ability to work with dynamic, geographically distributed, cross functional teams as necessary to complete projects
  • Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment to complete projects on time with minimal guidance
  • Well organized with strong attention to detail; proactively ensures work is accurate
  • Positive attitude and work ethic; unafraid to ask questions and explore new ideas
  • Resourceful and able to solve complex problems through adaptation of existing technology and investigation of new technology to resolve complex problems

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with containerization in HPC (Apptainer/Singularity, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of HPC security models, multi-tenant environments, and compliance frameworks

Responsibilities

  • Architect end-to-end HPC solutions including compute clusters, high-speed networking, storage, and workload orchestration
  • Develop long-term platform strategy, including CPU/GPU/accelerator roadmap planning
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies (processing, networking, accelerators, fabrics, storage, AI/ML)
  • Design scalable, fault-tolerant, and high-performance system architectures
  • Conduct performance modeling, simulation, and benchmarking using industry tools
  • Optimize system performance at the kernel, network, I/O, and application layers
  • Collaborate with engineering, development and research teams to improve application performance on HPC platforms
  • Deploy, configure, and tune large-scale Linux-based HPC clusters & Infra Core Servers
  • Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to automate provisioning, monitoring, and lifecycle management
  • Establish operational standards, reliability practices, configuration management, and documentation
  • Drive capacity planning, workload optimization, and resource utilization strategies
  • Provide technical leadership and partner with Engineering Services to optimize and develop future technology strategies
  • Partner with simulation teams on workload onboarding, optimization, and adoption of best practices
  • Partner with vendors and technology partners to evaluate hardware and software solutions
  • Drive architectural excellence across the Synaptics technology environment
