About The Position

Working as part of a collaborative team in an academic library environment with a strong user-centered focus, this position reports to the Web and Discovery Librarian in the Collection Development & Management (CDM) department. The specialist will enhance access and discoverability of library online resources, ensure user-friendly online experiences, troubleshoot access issues and contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the library’s website. Additionally, the Web and Discovery Specialist will contribute to data collection, reporting and analytics of user activity, experiences, and trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Six (6) months’ experience with website maintenance and design.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Working knowledge of electronic resource access, including authentication protocols and link resolvers.
  • Experience working in an academic library or higher education environment.
  • Familiarity with CSS frameworks.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards, UX research, and responsive design.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing and updating the online A–Z database list to ensure accurate linking, descriptions, and access to resources.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve access issues related to electronic resources, including databases, ejournals, subscription platforms, and ebooks.
  • Collaborate with vendors to help ensure consistent access through authentication systems (EZProxy, SSO).
  • Maintain documentation on troubleshooting procedures and access management workflows.
  • Assist with the maintenance and development of the library website using a content management system (e.g., WordPress, LibGuides CMS) and static sites.
  • Enhance usability, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness using user-centered design principles.
  • Collaborate with librarians and academic staff to design web content that supports research and instruction.
  • Help conduct user research testing and collect user feedback to inform continuous improvements.
  • Monitor electronic resource usage data and contribute to usage analysis reports to support collection development and decision-making.
  • Use tools such as Matomo Analytics, Google Analytics, and COUNTER to track and assess website and digital resource performance.
  • Develop clear and effective data visualizations (e.g., dashboards, charts, infographics) to communicate usage trends, access issues, and user behavior to library stakeholders.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for improving the discoverability and accessibility of electronic resources through data-driven insights.
