About The Position

We're looking for a talented Sr. Specialist Application Engineer to join our Technology team. In this role, you'll collaborate with both Technology and Business teams to design, build, and implement innovative web and process applications. You'll also partner with Client Success to resolve production issues and ensure smooth operations. If you love solving complex problems, mentoring others, and building scalable solutions, this is the role for you.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with .NET or Java
• 5+ years of experience in industry standard relational database solutions like SQL Server or Postgres
• Strong unit testing experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Highly self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team
• Experience building highly scalable software solutions
• Subject matter expertise in at least one technical track
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Nice To Haves

• N-Tier and SaaS development experience
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Familiarity with modern development practices and tools

Responsibilities

• Propose technical solutions and improvements to the Manager of Application Engineering
• Design, develop, test, and implement new features and enhancements for Waystar's website and core processing applications
• Build and maintain applications based on functional and technical specifications
• Adhere to Waystar coding standards and approved technologies; recommend updates when needed
• Perform unit testing and collaborate with business and technology owners to validate solutions
• Communicate development progress daily to senior team members
• Manage work items through internal case systems and ensure timely delivery
• Take ownership of assigned tasks, provide accurate estimates, and resolve blockers
• Assist in QA processes and participate in production code deployments, including smoke testing
• Maintain clear documentation and communicate technical issues to leadership and peers
• Identify opportunities for refactoring, optimization, and improved technology solutions
• Mentor team members to help them build correct technical solutions
• Solve complex technical problems with minimal oversight
• Additional duties as assigned
