Sr. Software Engineer

About The Position

We are seeking an exceptionally senior Software Engineer , a proven individual contributor who consistently delivers complex, high-impact work with minimal oversight. This role is designed for engineers who already operate at a staff or principal execution level , not for those growing into seniority, seeking mentorship, or looking for a career steppingstone. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role . While architectural direction will largely be established by an existing software architect, you will be expected to execute within those architectural guardrails , independently driving complex workstreams from loosely defined requirements through production release, without inflating scope, requiring heavy direction, or compromising quality . You will take ambiguous product and business needs and turn them into clear, scoped, production-ready implementations . Success in this role requires sound engineering judgment, disciplined prioritization, strong ownership, and the ability to move fast without creating unnecessary complexity. If you have not previously owned meaningful production systems end-to-end , executed independently at a high bar, or been accountable for long-term technical outcomes , this role will not be a fit. NOTE – This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week onsite in South Bend, Indiana (Tuesday–Thursday).

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of production-critical systems
  • Proven ability to operate as a highly autonomous senior individual contributor in fast-moving environments
  • Track record of delivering complex initiatives from vague inputs to production-ready solutions
  • Deep experience designing, building, deploying, and operating RESTful services in production
  • Strong expertise in backend engineering, relational data modeling, and system performance
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices boundaries, failure modes, and observability
  • Experience contributing across the stack, not limited to isolated components
  • Strong experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and production operations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage scope, prioritize impact, and avoid unnecessary complexity
  • Experience elevating team quality through example, reviews, and pragmatic technical guidance

Nice To Haves

  • Kubernetes and containerized deployment
  • React / Redux
  • TypeScript
  • NoSQL technologies (e.g., MongoDB)

Responsibilities

  • Independently execute complex backend and full-stack engineering initiatives supporting Aunalytics’ analytics and insights platforms
  • Deliver high-impact workstreams end-to-end with minimal oversight, from scoping through production and operational support
  • Operate within established architecture while contributing pragmatic improvements through collaborative design discussions
  • Translate loosely defined requirements into well-scoped, maintainable technical solutions without expanding scope unnecessarily
  • Make senior-level technical tradeoffs balancing delivery speed, reliability, scalability, security, and long-term maintainability
  • Lead large technical initiatives through execution , not process overhead or delegation
  • Maintain a high bar for code quality, system integrity, and operational reliability through reviews and disciplined engineering practices
  • Proactively identify technical risks and debt , driving practical remediation that aligns with business priorities
  • Contribute to engineering standards and best practices through example and influence
  • Mentor engineers informally through strong technical leadership and execution , not micromanagement
  • Introduce new tools or technologies only where they deliver clear, measurable value
