The Consumer Engineering team, which this role is part of, focuses on powering experiences for millions of PayPal customers to send, spend, and manage money safely and effortlessly, designing reliable, high-performance systems that foster trust and simplicity across PayPal’s global ecosystem. The team collaborates with product, design, and data science to deliver innovative, customer-first solutions aligned with PayPal’s mission to make financial services more accessible, inclusive, and empowering.
Requirements
- 3+ years relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong foundation in programming concepts and data structures.
- Experience with backend development using Python and frameworks such as Django or Flask.
- Understanding of web services and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles.
- Familiarity with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL).
- Exposure to version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
Nice To Haves
- Interest in large-scale, high-performance distributed systems.
- Awareness of the payment processing industry and related compliance or regulatory standards.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Contributions to open-source projects or participation in developer communities.
Responsibilities
- Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
- Advises immediate management on project-level issues
- Guides junior engineers
- Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
- Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions
