About The Position

This role is for a Sr Software Development Engineer within Global Operations & Engineering Services (GOES) Tech. GOES Tech's mission is to create the infrastructure, data foundation, and operational frameworks that enable Global Operations to scale efficiently and make faster, better decisions, focusing on reducing cycle time, improving capital efficiency, ensuring compliance excellence, and accelerating capability development. The team operates with a "Developer Mindset," emphasizing working ahead of demand, taking ownership of outcomes, creating long-term value, using data for decisions, solving problems, and proactively shaping future systems. This is a hands-on position involving end-to-end ownership from requirements gathering to operations and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will possess deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, a passion for software development, and the drive to achieve results in a fast-paced environment, comfortable with technical architectures, identifying solutions, and working with cloud computing and AI technology. The team specifically manages cost forecasting, project execution, and program management, owning the critical transition from design to physical reality across Amazon's global footprint. Their systems and tools are the backbone that ensures capital projects are planned, tracked, and delivered with precision at scale.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of system performance, memory management, and parallel computing principles.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and LLM fundamentals, including transformer architecture, training/inference lifecycles, and optimization techniques.
  • Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and design of new and existing systems within GOES Tech, including design patterns, reliability, scalability, and performance optimization.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle execution — from coding standards and code reviews to source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Serve as a technical leader and mentor to engineering team members, raising the bar on technical excellence and engineering culture across GOES Tech.
  • Own the reliability and operational health of globally deployed, highly concurrent, high-throughput systems.
  • Collaborate with product management, program management, and senior leadership across GOES Tech and Global Operations to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Work ahead of demand, use data to inform decisions, take ownership of outcomes, and proactively shape the future of our systems and processes, embodying the Developer Mindset.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cycle time, improve capital efficiency, and accelerate capability development through technology.
  • Perform requirements gathering, designs, design reviews, implementations, code reviews, incremental feature launches, and operations.
