About The Position

The Forsyth County Department of Social Services is seeking to hire a Sr. Social Work Supervisor for the Child Protective Services Division. This position is being re-advertised. The Sr. Social Work Supervisor is responsible for directing and overseeing the work of a unit comprising five Sr. Social Workers. This individual will collaborate with Sr. Social Work Supervisors in CPS and After-Hour (AHU), Program Managers, and all other members of the division. The Supervisor will implement work standards and expectations within this unit as defined by state and federal guidelines, North Carolina statutes, and county/agency policies. They will gather and evaluate unit data to measure performance, regularly review documentation for accuracy, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and county standards, statutes, and protocols. Additionally, the Supervisor will conduct conferences, evaluate case situations and progress, and provide direction and guidance to ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work;
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work, completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative and one year of directly-related child welfare experience;
  • Master's Degree in Counseling or a human services field from an accredited college or university and one year of social work, counseling, or directly-related child welfare experience;
  • Bachelor's Degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years of directly-related child welfare experience;
  • or a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly-related child welfare experience.
  • Excellent customer service and interviewing skills to assess the needs of children and families.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is needed to meet the needs of the families served and the mandated time frames.
  • A valid driver's license is essential for this position, as travel outside the office is common.

  • A CPS Sr. Social Work Supervisor should have excellent assessment skills, sound judgment, the ability to serve children and families from all socioeconomic backgrounds with a range of mental capacities, without personal bias. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also necessary for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the provision of CPS Assessments and CPS Investigations provided by a rotating staff of five (5) Sr. Social Workers.
  • Implementing work standards and expectations within this unit/program area, as defined by state/federal guidelines, NC General Statutes, and county/agency policies.
  • Gather and evaluate unit data to measure performance, review dictation for accuracy and compliance, conduct regular conferences, assess case situations and progress, and provide direction and guidance to ensure compliance.
  • Supervise and guide Sr. Social Workers who assess and evaluate allegations of child abuse, neglect, or dependency.
  • Assess families' strengths and needs, describe safety factors, and determine appropriate safety responses.
  • Assessing child safety, developing safety response plans with parents or caretakers, initiating court intervention when necessary to ensure child safety, and continuously assessing and evaluating the family's progress toward identified goals.
  • Ensure that all interactions are documented in accordance with the mandated state guidelines and timeframes. This includes completing documentation in compliance with county, state, and federal requirements to provide appropriate services to children and families.
  • Collaborate with families to ensure the safety, well-being, and permanence of children and may frequently work with law enforcement, medical personnel, and other community resources.
