Branding BrandPittsburgh, PA

About The Position

Branding Brand is searching for a Senior Shopify Engineer Contractor to join our team and lead the rebuild of a premium menswear e-commerce platform on Shopify’s Horizon theme. This is a high-visibility project involving deep theme customization, a complex integration ecosystem (15+ third-party vendors), and performance-critical storefronts serving a discerning customer base. You’ll own the frontend architecture and integration layer across the full site from PLP and PDP templates to analytics, personalization, and SEO. We are looking to bring on an independent contractor for roughly six months, with a strong possibility of the contract being extended. We will not be working C2C for this position.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional frontend/full-stack development experience, with strong JavaScript / Typescript and Liquid expertise
  • 3+ years of hands-on Shopify theme development, including custom sections, blocks, metafields, and the Shopify API
  • Deep understanding of Shopify’s theme architecture, Online Store 2.0, JSON templates, section rendering, and the Storefront/Admin APIs
  • Proven experience integrating third-party services into Shopify (e.g., search providers, personalization engines, review platforms, analytics tools)
  • Strong HTML, CSS, and responsive design skills with a sharp eye for translating brand design systems into pixel-accurate UI
  • Experience with analytics implementation: GA4 event tracking, GTM, custom pixels, and data layer configuration
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices, including semantic markup, structured data (JSON-LD), and performance optimization
  • Experience with Git-based workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development environments
  • Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments, owning features end-to-end, and communicating directly with stakeholders and client teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a bias toward clean, maintainable, well-documented code

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Shopify’s Horizon theme specifically
  • Background in premium retail, fashion, or DTC e-commerce
  • Familiarity with SearchSpring, Nosto, or similar commerce tooling
  • Experience migrating legacy Shopify themes or re-platforming projects
  • Exposure to multi-currency and international commerce configurations

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build a custom Shopify storefront using the Horizon theme as the base, with extensive Liquid template development and theme customization
  • Develop and maintain multiple page templates (Home, PLP, PDP, Blog, Store Locator, Account, Cart, and more) with modular, reusable section and block patterns
  • Integrate and optimize a large third-party ecosystem including SearchSpring (search, sort, filter), Nosto (recommendations, personalization), Swym (wishlist, back-in-stock), Okendo (reviews), Attentive (SMS), Klaviyo (email/events), and others
  • Implement analytics and tracking across GA4, GTM, and multiple vendor pixels (Commission Junction, Everflow, Truefit, ShopMy, Flightplan), including migration to Shopify’s custom pixel architecture
  • Build responsive, performant UI components for desktop and mobile viewports with attention to brand design fidelity
  • Collaborate with product, design, and the client’s internal dev team to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Own SEO and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) implementation: semantic HTML, structured data, landmark roles, internal linking, and AI/agentic search readiness
  • Troubleshoot production issues, optimize Core Web Vitals, and ensure reliability across the storefront
  • Drive code quality through reviews, documentation, and engineering best practices within a CI/CD pipeline
  • Implement secure coding best practices and participate in ongoing security training and awareness.
