About The Position

The Sr Security Engineer (SIEM) at Xcel Energy is responsible for the creation, coordination, implementation, and execution of cybersecurity solutions. This role provides security governance and oversight in alignment with Xcel Energy's IT Security & Risk Management Program Strategy. The engineer will collaborate with business partners, internal technology teams, and external vendors to ensure effective security measures are in place, while also ensuring compliance with various regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, technology, accounting, business, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 8 years in IT, including 5 years in IT engineering and cybersecurity.
• Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Strong investigative and conflict resolution skills.
• Broad knowledge of IT infrastructures and experience with multiple operating systems.

Nice To Haves

• Expertise with Security Information Event Management (SIEM).
• Experience in measuring success in security incident response.
• Experience with log ingestion and event correlation.
• Experience with Security Orchestration and Automated Response (SOAR).
• Understanding of endpoint and network security solutions.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and implement security solutions in support of Xcel Energy's security objectives.
• Provide technical leadership, governance, and oversight for IT systems and projects with a focus on security.
• Drive education on security architecture, processes, and best practices.
• Act as an internal consultant to educate customers on strategic security choices.
• Conduct technical security research and evaluate new technology tools.
• Maintain relationships with third-party service providers for technology consulting.
• Collaborate with business unit executives to integrate required cybersecurity functionalities.
