Role Summary The Senior Safety Test Engineer plays a crucial role in planning, executing, and analyzing safety-related testing for vehicle development programs. This position requires expertise in coordinating and executing full vehicle, subsystem and component tests, as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure safety standards and regulations are met. The Senior Safety Test Engineer will independently lead test execution and manage multiple workstreams to ensure successful outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering required with 5-7+ years of relevant OEM or TIER1 experience
  • Prior Experience with physical testing of safety components and systems (static testing, impactor testing, Occupant Sled Testing, Impact sled testing and full Vehicle Testing) is a MUST
  • Frequent travel, In & out of state will be required as per need.
  • Good understanding of the FMVSS/ECE regulations
  • Good understanding of the IIHS, US & EURO NCAP protocols
  • Good understanding of overall automotive safety systems is MUST
  • Experience with post processing test data along with CAE is desired.
  • Willingness to work in physical crash testing environment is MUST
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills and software proficiencies (CAD softwares, Excel, PowerPoint and other data analysis software) are required
  • Effective communicator, up, down and sideways (verbal, emails, phone calls, text messages, engineering reports etc.)

  • Prior CAE experience is appreciated.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and analysis of full vehicle crash tests and other safety-related tests (e.g., occupant sled, component level impactor tests).
  • Develop and maintain safety design verification plans (DVP) in collaboration with cross-functional teams, ensuring all requirements are met for vehicle programs.
  • Coordinate vehicle planning, test schedules, and logistics for safety testing.
  • Ensure proper documentation and sign-off of test results, maintaining timely completion of the DVP process.
  • Facilitate coordination with external test labs, and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Lead the creation of test fixtures for components, subsystem and full vehicle tests, and support design and fabrication efforts.
  • Summarize test results and areas for improvement, ensuring future tests benefit from the learnings and optimizations made.
  • Support the in-housing of new test capabilities and work with internal teams to build out additional testing facilities.
