Executes consolidation, analysis and reporting for regular (monthly, quarterly, and annual) financial statements and keeps abreast of changes in internal guidelines and external accounting standards. Varian is scaling a global portfolio across hardware, software, and services. We’re seeking a Senior Revenue Recognition Accountant to lead complex contract/order reviews, operate SOX controls around order booking and revenue, partner cross-functionally across O2C, and drive the annual SSP evaluation and update for the portfolio worldwide.

Requirements

  • Seasoned Expertise: A minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting, with hands-on experience in Revenue Recognition.
  • Educational Foundation: A degree in accounting or finance. CPA preferred.
  • Language Mastery: Fluent in English, both written and oral.
  • Software Proficiency: Experienced in applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Analytical Mindset: Possess an analytical and problem-solving orientation, with a natural curiosity about business issues, drivers, and solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Leadership Ability: Capability to lead discussions with accounting teams non-accounting team.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of accounting principles and IFRS or USGAAP.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Certification: ACCA/CPA qualification.
  • Software Proficiency: Knowledge of SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Contract & order review: Evaluate Master Agreements, addenda, quotes, and SOs for non-standard terms (cancellation/return rights, rebates/tiered pricing, managed/hosted services, license activations), conclude IFRS 15/ASC 606 treatment, and document technical positions. Support joint deals and enterprise deals (ES), including change order processes. Perform revenue allocation checks and update SSPs for revised orders.
  • Support monthly revenue recognition and intercompany (I/C) billing for ES deals, including coordination with SHS ES Finance and Varian Finance. Support the process design and documentation for ES, finance, accounting, and reporting as part of a one-off project involving workshops. Support design and testing of a new IT dashboard to provide visibility on SO details, allocated revenue, forecasted dates, revenue recognition, and I/C billing. Provide reporting, reconciliation, and communication support to SHS ES Finance, I/C billing, and Varian Finance until automation is implemented
  • Educate the regional and segment finance and accounting community regarding SSP from both technical perspective as well as system implementation perspective.
  • Controls & governance: Perform and continuously improve key SOX controls over order intake and revenue recognition.
