About The Position

The Sr. Research Associate 1, SOM provides laboratory-based support for the University’s research activities by tackling the more specialized and complex projects and experiments. Additionally, the incumbent leverages expertise in training and mentoring department staff, students, and less experienced research associates. The position is for a NIH-funded study entitled “Remotely-Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Stress Management Effects on Cancer-Accelerated Aging in Older, Distressed survivors”. The job consists on the collection of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from Breast Cancer Survivors (BCS) who completed initial treatment. Patients are distressed, mid-older aged (> 50yrs), postmenopausal, diagnosed with Stage I – III HR+ (ER/PR+), Her2neu- breast cancer. Patients will be randomized in two groups: 1) Remotely-delivered Cognitive Behavioral Stress Management (R-CBSM) + Survivorship Care Planning (SCP) (n = 96); 2) SCP-only control (n = 96). Patients will give blood 4 times: initially and 6, 12 and 24 months after the end of psychological intervention. At each time point, they will be assessed for immune cell function, intrinsic inflammation, metabolic and senescent phenotype and stress (salivary cortisol).
