About The Position

AV is seeking a Reliability Engineer that will play a key role in ensuring the dependability and mission success of complex space systems. This position involves applying reliability engineering principles, conducting analyses, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet stringent standards. On any given day, the selected candidate may be asked to: Perform Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) analyses for space systems and subsystems. Develop and maintain Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). Conduct Reliability Growth Testing, Life Data Analysis, and Accelerated Life Testing. Generate and review reliability predictions using MIL-HDBK-217, Telcordia, or similar standards. Integrate reliability requirements into hardware and software designs. Prepare and present reliability reports and metrics to program leadership and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with DoD, NASA, and aerospace reliability standards and contractual requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in reliability engineering for aerospace or defense programs.
  • Proficiency in reliability tools and software (e.g., Reliance, Windchill Quality Solutions, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of MIL-STD-1629, MIL-HDBK-217, and related standards.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • ITAR Requirement: This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction. Please understand that any job offer that requires approval of an export license will be conditional on AeroVironment’s determination that it will be able to obtain an export license in a time frame consistent with AeroVironment’s business requirements. A “U.S. person” according to the ITAR definition is a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or protected individual such as a refugee or asylee. See 22 CFR § 120.15. Some positions will require current U.S. Citizenship due to contract requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with space-qualified hardware, radiation-hardened components, and electronic systems reliability.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering tools.
  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks, DoD acquisition processes, and mission assurance.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
