The Research & Development (R&D) team drives innovation, product development, and technological advancements across its juice and beverage portfolio. Focused on creating unique flavors, enhancing nutritional value, and improving formulations, the team ensures products meet evolving consumer preferences. They lead projects from concept to launch, ensuring efficient execution while aligning with business goals. Committed to sustainability, they develop innovative packaging solutions that are biodegradable, recyclable, and environmentally friendly. Additionally, they uphold rigorous nutritional science and regulatory standards, validating health claims and ensuring compliance. With a strong emphasis on food safety, quality, and process engineering, the team optimizes manufacturing systems to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain product excellence. Collaborating closely with scientists, nutritionists, and engineers, Tropicana’s R&D team plays a crucial role in keeping products competitive. We are looking to add a Senior Regulatory and Nutrition Specialist to our Regulatory and Nutrition team. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance of ingredients, formulas, claims and labeling for several beverage brands within TBG’s portfolio for both the U.S. and Canadian markets, playing a pivotal role in the innovation and launch process with a focus on research and claims substantiation. You will have the opportunity to interact regularly with other functions including but not limited to product development, marketing, purchasing, and legal. Tropicana is looking for a critical thinker with exceptional communication, influencing and relationship management skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years regulatory affairs experience required, with strong knowledge of FDA and Health Canada food and beverage regulations.
  • 2+ years experience participating in food and beverage trade organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of Organic, Kosher, and Non-GMO Project Verified certifications
  • An understanding of GMO and bioengineering regulation in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Ability to understand scientific research for claims substantiation
  • Excellent computer skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong collaborating and influencing skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload, balance multiple tasks, conduct calculated risk assessments and work independently
  • Strong sense of urgency and commitment to meet aggressive timelines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, Adobe, SAP-PLM including working in product specification, regulatory and/or product lifecycle management software.
  • English required; French preferred
  • BS in Food and Nutrition, Food Science, or Science-related equivalent. An advanced degree is preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be located in Chicago, IL surrounding area or willing to relocate for the duration of employment.
  • Willingness to adapt and thrive in a blended work environment with 3-days in office, seamlessly transitioning between remote work and in-office operations

Responsibilities

  • Provide regulatory and nutrition expertise across TBG beverage brands (Tropicana, Naked Juice, KeVita, IZZE, and Dole), ensuring compliant ingredient statements, Nutrition Facts, allergen declarations, and claims
  • Create, review, and approve labeling and packaging graphics to help consumers make informed choices while ensuring regulatory accuracy on final artwork
  • Partner with Innovation and R&D teams to evaluate new ingredients, review supplier substantiation, and guide compliant use across the portfolio
  • Substantiate complex nutrition and marketing claims and define new claim territories in alignment with business strategy and regulations
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of regulatory information across databases, specifications, and lifecycle management systems
  • Interpret and apply U.S. FDA and Health Canada regulations, with subject-matter expertise in Canadian requirements and active participation in Canadian trade associations
  • Collaborate cross functionally to manage packaging timelines, mitigate regulatory risk, and support agile decision making in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
