Job Summary This role focuses on designing and developing mechanical parts (injection molded/sheet metal) considering customer needs, RFID performance, and manufacturability. Responsibilities include design review using FEA and 3D printing, creating GD&T drawings in Solidworks, and managing documentation (parts, assemblies, ECOs) in Arena. The position also involves designing and executing tests, collaborating with contract manufacturers, and adapting to project priorities.

  • Design injection molded or sheet metal mechanical parts with consideration for customer needs, RFID performance, and manufacturability.
  • Review designs using Finite Element Analysis, 3D printing, prototyping, creating drawings/specs, integrating industrial design considerations, etc.
  • Create drawings following GD&T.
  • Update models and drawings using Solidworks.
  • Create new parts, assemblies, deviations, supplier change requests, and ECOs using Arena.
  • Document sourcing, datasheets, specifications, change rationale, etc. for ECOs.
  • Create and update documentation to support assembly procedures and processes using good communication skills and documentation practices.
  • Design test methods for evaluating design changes.
  • Complete testing personally or work with technician to complete test.
  • Document test results and report out to team.
  • Work closely with contract manufacturer to evaluate potential design or assembly changes.
  • Visit supplier as needed, 4-12 times per year.
  • Support positive improvements to quality system and other group processes.
  • Make recommendations for test equipment or software packages based upon group needs.
  • Adapt to project prioritization based on business and customer needs.
  • Monitor health of the installed base and investigate issues as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field prerred
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering preferred
  • Experience with SolidWorks is required, Solidworks FEA module a plus.
  • Knowledge of PLM tools (Arena preferred)
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods and common manufacturing methods, including sheet metal, various molding techniques, and machining preferred
  • Familiarity with RFID Technology and Linux OS a plus
  • Command of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel; excellent communication and presentation skills, and extreme attention to detail.
