About The Position

The Sr. Hardware Quality Engineering Manager (QEM) is responsible for ensuring that products are designed for quality and continue to meet customer expectations throughout their lifecycle. This role focuses on product quality deliverables during product launch and sustaining phases. The successful candidate will establish quality goals, monitor performance, investigate failures using a full suite of analysis tools, influence root cause identification, and drive closed-loop corrective actions. They will lead quality lessons learned and institute remedies to prevent re-occurrence of quality issues, while maintaining a high sense of urgency for critical issues. The position requires broad knowledge across product design, manufacturing, factory process controls, and customer service complaint handling. The Sr. QEM will identify risks and collaborate with product development and sustaining engineering to resolve critical and high-risk items before product shipment, ensuring these issues do not recur in future generations. Additionally, the role involves driving continuous improvement, managing ambiguity, and influencing all levels of the company.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical integration or assembly
  • BSME/BSIE/BSEE/BSCE or related Engineering degree
  • 10+ years of working experience in an engineering or quality role
  • 5+ years of practice experience with statistical tools and strong quality engineering leadership
  • Familiar with NPI cycles and Product Development Process for consumer electronics industry
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated success with practical applications of Lean / Six Sigma tools such as Failure Mode & Effects Analysis, Design of Experiments, Measurement System Analysis, Analysis of Variance, Hypothesis Testing, Value Stream Mapping, Pareto Charts, Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility, Cpk
  • Technical knowledge of conducting process audits and formulating plans to drive continual quality improvements within the factory operations

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Master's degree in business, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics or related field
  • Understanding of technology, at the system and commodity level as well as software and usability
  • Design experience in different engineering aspect, such as EE, Mechanical, RF, IC, Display and etc.
  • Technical knowledge of conducting process audits and formulating plans to drive continual quality improvements within the factory operations
  • Must be self-motivated/self-directed, is able to manage multiple work streams simultaneously and flawlessly
  • Experience with AI and machine learning

Responsibilities

  • Identify risks and work with the appropriate product development and sustaining engineering functions to ensure the critical and high risk items are resolved prior to shipping a product and moreover don’t make it into next generation product
  • Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the job
  • Understand the technology and functionality of Consumer Hardware products, and be able to assess the risk to a negative customer experience, so that it can be prevented during development
  • Analyze build data to establish specific product quality issue(s) and drive a closed loop corrective action within the organization
  • Guide cross-functional teams in Design for Quality initiatives
  • Utilize comprehensive knowledge of standards, related disciplines, company strategy and goals, to ensure a positive customer experience
  • Deliver solutions to complex problems through in-depth data analysis and forensics by using methodical approaches, along with experience, innovation and judgment to make choices that may be based on partial information
  • Understand detailed implications of decisions and recommendations and be able to communicate recommended solutions to the product development team, all the way up to the executive team
  • Align cross-functionally, influencing a broad spectrum of stakeholders to deliver on the quality policy
  • Create standards around which others will operate and build consensus
  • Establish specific quality related functional milestones during New Product Introduction (NPI) & Sustaining
