The Advanced Quality Engineer (Coaching Focus) is a senior individual contributor responsible for elevating quality engineering capability across teams through hands-on coaching, technical leadership, and strategic quality practices. This role partners closely with engineering, product, and delivery squads to embed quality-first thinking, modern QE practices, and scalable automation approaches throughout the SDLC. This position is ideal for an experienced Quality Engineer who enjoys mentoring others, influencing quality outcomes, and driving continuous improvement without direct people management responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in Quality Engineering or Software Testing.
  • 5+ years in a QE Lead or Quality Coaching/Enablement role.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, or leading quality initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Hands-on exposure to test automation tools and frameworks in modern development environments.
  • Strong understanding of: Software development lifecycles (Agile, DevOps, CI/CD) Test design techniques and risk-based testing API, UI, and integration testing strategies
  • Practical experience with one or more automation tools or frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, REST-based testing, or similar).
  • Experience interpreting quality metrics and using data to drive improvements.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, build pipelines, and defect management tools and test case/cycle artifacts.
  • Proven ability to coach without authority and influence behavior through trust and expertise.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Passion for developing people and elevating team maturity.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing or improving enterprise-level QE standards or frameworks.
  • Exposure to performance, security, or accessibility testing.
  • Experience working in large-scale or distributed Agile environments.
  • Previous experience contributing to quality transformations or modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Leadership & Coaching Act as a Quality Engineering coach and mentor, supporting QE team members and cross-functional partners to improve technical skills, quality mindset, and execution.
  • Lead by example through hands-on engagement, pairing, code reviews (test code), and quality strategy facilitation.
  • Coach teams on shift-left testing, risk-based testing, and quality ownership at all levels.
  • Support QE Leads and managers by helping develop QE standards, career paths, and capability models.
  • Stress the importance of automation and performance testing.
  • Quality Strategy & Governance Collaborate with engineering and product teams to define and evolve quality strategies aligned to business outcomes.
  • Establish and promote best practices for test design, test data management, defect prevention, and release readiness.
  • Drive consistent QE practices across teams while allowing for contextual flexibility.
  • Provide insight into quality metrics how Invesco utilizes Zephyr Scale to drive specific metrics around test case development, Regression procedures and test automation identification.
  • Automation & Technical Excellence Provide guidance and technical leadership in test automation frameworks, tools, and approaches.
  • Review and influence automation architecture to ensure scalability, maintainability, and effectiveness.
  • Advocate for automation at the appropriate levels (API, UI, integration, contract, performance).
  • Support teams in adopting CI/CD-friendly testing practices.
  • Collaboration & Influence Partner with developers, architects, DevOps, and product leaders to embed quality early in design and development.
  • Influence technical and delivery decisions through data, experience, and collaboration rather than authority.
  • Support quality workshops, retrospectives, and improvement initiatives.
