The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of Operations projects within a medical device and/or molecular in-vitro diagnostic company while ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals. This position reports to the Director, Engineering PMO, and is part of the Operations PMO organization located in Sunnyvale, CA, and will be an on-site role. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Lead large, complex cross‑functional initiatives from planning through delivery. Establish project roadmaps, timelines, and execution plans, ensuring alignment across engineering, operations, quality, and supporting functions. Drive strategic initiatives that enhance PMO capabilities and operational performance. Improve internal processes, strengthen project management disciplines, and support continuous improvement through DBS methodologies. Develop and manage comprehensive project plans—including schedules, resources, budgets, and interdependencies. Identify risks proactively, implement mitigation strategies, and ensure projects are delivered on scope, on schedule, and within budget using Visual Project Management practices. Provide clear, timely communication to senior leadership (Directors, VPs) on project progress, KPIs, risks, and mitigation actions. Maintain accurate documentation and regularly update project status in Cepheid’s Project Priority tools. Lead and influence matrixed teams across diverse technical domains, including engineering verification, validation, and operations. Foster collaborative execution and ensure alignment of technical and operational deliverables

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in field with preference for 5+ years of related work experience OR Master’s degree in field with preference for 3+ years of related work experience OR Doctoral degree in field with preference for 0-2 years of related work experience.
  • Required specialized depth and/or breadth of Project Management expertise.
  • 3-5 years of project management leadership of hardware and software implementation
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Works independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, self-motivated and ability to lead through influence and direct reporting relationships
  • Strong ability to manage cross-functional teams and understand technical domains such as engineering verification, validation, and operations
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestic and international.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP or DBS certification is highly preferred.
  • Masters, PhD, or Advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Business solutions implementation experience.
  • Experience with Visual Project Management
  • Experience with Agile, CAMSTAR, MES, ERP, SAP, MES-ERP interfacing
  • Experience in a regulated environment, medical device and/or In Vitro Diagnostic product experience.
