About The Position

The Advanced Programs and Exploitation (APEX) team within Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a highly organized Project Engineer to lead and support the execution of ongoing programs and internal research and development efforts focused on remote sensing data processing, exploitation applications, and simulations. The Project Engineer will serve as the primary interface between engineering, program management, and external partners, ensuring schedules, budgets, and technical requirements are met. In this role you will be responsible for planning, tracking, and reporting on project milestones, coordinating cross functional teams, managing risk, and driving the successful delivery of embedded system hardware and software solutions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience managing technical projects in aerospace, defense, or a related high tech environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain detailed project schedules and track budgets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret government clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with embedded system development projects (hardware and software) and familiarity with FPGA based platforms.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes.
  • Proficiency with collaboration tools such as JIRA.
  • Familiarity with Agile and/or Scrum methodologies applied to hardware software projects.
  • Understanding of CI/CD concepts, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes) from a project management viewpoint.
  • Experience conducting cost benefit analyses, Earned Value Management (EVM), and performance metrics reporting.
  • Active government security clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, schedules, and resource allocations for multiple projects.
  • Track progress against milestones, manage budgetary constraints, and report status to senior leadership and customers.
  • Coordinate cross functional teams (software, hardware, systems, test, and integration) to ensure seamless collaboration and timely issue resolution.
  • Conduct risk assessments, implement mitigation strategies, and maintain a risk register throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate technical reviews, design reviews, and checkpoint meetings; capture decisions and action items.
  • Ensure compliance with Lockheed Martin policies, export controls, and government security requirements.
