About The Position

GFT is seeking a Sr. Project Engineer - Traffic/Highway to join our Transportation Team in any of the following GFT office locations: Kansas City, MO; Wichita, KS, Omaha, NE; Denver, CO; St. Louis, MO; Tulsa, OK; or Oklahoma City, OK! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of these office locations. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum of 10 years' professional experience within Traffic and/or Highway engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in State of Kansas or Missouri.
  • Experience working with KDOT or MoDOT and other local transportation agencies.
  • Experience with traffic and safety analysis.
  • Knowledge of the MUTCD and Highway Capacity Manual.
  • Experience with traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, Sidra or VISSIM).
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with MicroStation CAD and MS Excel and Word.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply them to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and directs traffic analysis and studies, including safety studies.
  • Completes design and plan preparation of traffic signal and interconnect drawings.
  • Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems.
  • Works independently, as a team member or lead, to execute specific phases or aspects of projects.
  • Reviews project design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contract requirements.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Shows understanding of team management, develops project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and tracks project progress.
  • Assures that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and budget.
  • Advocates for and mentors entry level engineers.
  • Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization.
  • Plans and executes project meetings.
  • Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Interprets changes in the contract and advises management on needed changes.
  • Maintains professional and technical skills by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
  • Assists and participates in preparation of business proposals.
  • Attends staff meetings and works with Project Managers to balance workload of the team.
