AECOM is seeking a Senior Project Counsel to work onsite at our project office located at the JFK International Airport in Jamaica, NY. Responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to: Gaining a deep understanding of the key project contracts and advising the project management team on the contractual impact of proposed actions. Communicating with project and broader company teams, clients, governmental authorities and other stakeholders; Drafting project correspondence to be sent to key stakeholders, including the Developer and subcontractors. Ensuring implementation of and team adherence to sound contract management and risk assessment policies; Reviewing and managing contract change orders/processes and ensuring that they comply with agreed-upon scope, schedule, and contract terms. Negotiating contractual issues (changes, subcontracts, purchase orders etc.) Preparing of reports, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents, as necessary. Working collaboratively with diverse group of professionals, including the company’s executives, attorneys, risk and insurance managers, engineers, scientists and contracts staff, as well as the ability to work with attorneys for external clients and subcontractors. Using online databases to document work and maintain updates. Helping manage disputes and directing and overseeing the work of outside counsel. Multi-tasking on a large number of various contract issues, claims and/or litigation, and general advice requests.

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school plus 7 years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney with experience in contracts and negotiation, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Admission to the bar in any state or the District of Columbia.
  • Corporate or project transactional experience with the proven ability to support transactions and ongoing projects.
  • Construction experience required, preferably in-house, at a construction law firm, or within a dedicated construction practice group.
  • Team player with strong communication skills, attention to detail, reporting skills, analytical skills, negotiating skills and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely express legal issues and analysis to management, clients, government authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules and priorities and ongoing project pressures.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Two (2) years of experience working as a project attorney on large infrastructure projects.
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills with substantive expertise with key provisions of most contracts.
  • Experience working with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, NJ TRANSIT, and/or the New York City Transit Authority.
