About The Position

The Senior Professional Staff Nurse II is a Registered Nurse who sets the standard for high‑quality care and leads practice improvement. This role carries full responsibility and accountability for delivering nursing care, managing a group of patients and families through independent judgment, communication, and teamwork. Requirements

Minimum 3 years experience.
BSN preferred.
Completion of annual contribution as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.
UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/promotion and must be maintained.
Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
If a BSN is held, a Masters degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.
Strong relationship-building skills with staff, physicians, and patients are essential.
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment, manage multiple priorities, and use critical thinking for patient care decisions.
Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning is necessary.
Completion of annual contribution as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.
UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/promotion and must be maintained.
Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Registered Nurse (RN)
Act 33 / Act 34 / Act 73 with renewal
Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Serves as a role model and unit leader in clinical expertise, education, resource support, or evidence‑based practice.
Provides constructive feedback, participates in peer review, and leads or contributes to effective teams and shared governance.
