About The Position

Provide oversight and accountability for a significant regional portfolio of Production Partner farrow-to-finish production farms. Train, teach, and coach on a daily basis to ensure consistent implementation of best practices on the farms that drive productivity, optimize efficiency, promote sustainability, and safeguard the well-being of the animals. Establish team excellence in production planning, scheduling, and execution of standard work, operational efficiency, and driving results. Understand company vision and successfully manage change on the farm to support innovation and drive continuous improvement. Job Duties & Accountabilities: Typical Duties of a Senior Production Manager includes: 1. Operational Excellence in Pig Production a. Plan production and set goals for all farms within assigned region while ensuring the implementation of standard operating procedures through routine farm visits and formal farm audits. b. Ensure that Farm Managers and Production Managers are utilizing system tools to maintain accurate production records while fostering a culture of lean continuous improvement and efficiency in all operations. c. Monitor and track production performance at each farm to ensure achievement of goals. Support Farm Managers and Production Managers to implement technologies and other innovations to improve production and promote the implementation of all improvement protocols. d. Daily foster a culture of lean continuous improvement and efficiency in all operations. e. Support Production Partners and employees implement technologies and other innovations to improve production. f. Participate in routine periodic management meetings and effectively communicate issues through chain of command. 2. Fiduciary Responsibility a. Routinely review operating costs and performance for production farms within assigned scope of responsibility. b. Maintain sharp focus on daily management to reduce controllable costs. c. Support field reporting systems that drive analysis and reporting of key success factors. 3. Animal Care and Bio-Security a. Collaborate with Health Services to establish farm-specific biosecurity plans. Comply with all company and farm-level standard work that promotes bio-security. b. Collaborate with Health Services to implement preventative and therapeutic health treatment programs. c. Ensure implementation of individual pig care practices to maintain health and well-being of all animals under our care. 4. Hiring, Staffing, and Leadership Development a. Provide direct leadership to a tactical management team through strong communication, goal setting, and routine coaching of management behaviors. b. Establish and implement a formal performance management program for all team members to drive performance, reinforce positive behaviors, and enhance leadership. c. Implement on-boarding, training, and coaching programs to develop technical and leadership capacity within the team, with emphasis on development of employees and Production Partners. d. Partner with Human Resources for hiring, staffing, discipline, and terminations. e. Promote safe work habits and a safe working environment. f. Ensure that all work-related injuries are properly reported and documented. 5. Asset Management a. Work with Animal Housing resources to identify building and equipment repair needs. Support the team to facilitate major capital repairs, routine repairs, and preventative maintenance programs. b. Ensure that Farm Managers are attending to barn facility housekeeping and routine low-level maintenance. c. Implement best management practices for environmental stewardship.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Livestock/swine management and handling.
  • Knowledge of: Company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of: Expert level knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for the system.
  • Knowledge of: Basic understanding of how to operate computer hardware and software, including MS Office, Internet Explorer, Pig Champ, and SharePoint.
  • Skills in: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skills in: Application of company tools for leadership development and learning.
  • Skills in: Building effective teams and motivating them to achieve high performance.
  • Skills in: Optimizing breeding farm productivity.

  • High School diploma or GED required at a minimum.
  • 5 years swine production or related experience with at least 3 in a production management role.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Animal Science or related field preferred.
  • B.S. Degree highly preferred.
