At the St. Gabriel, LA site, the Senior Procurement Specialist is crucial for ensuring that the right materials, services, and suppliers arrive on time, on budget, and fully compliant. This role involves aligning priorities with the Procurement Manager and balancing requests from engineering and non-engineering teams. The specialist acts as a partner, enabler, and facilitator, ensuring internal customers receive value for every dollar spent while supporting the broader business strategy. As the site’s procurement expert, the Senior Procurement Specialist collaborates with operations, mechanical, and electrical teams to understand their needs and translate them into smart commercial solutions. This includes sourcing engineering materials, spares, raw materials, or services, and leading supplier appraisals, selection, and negotiations for medium-complexity procurements to secure optimal terms and conditions. The role extends beyond purchasing to include implementing and continuously improving engineering and non-engineering procurement strategies, processes, procedures, and contractual standards. The specialist supports the development of strong, compliant supplier relationships, monitoring performance, driving improvement, and ensuring alignment with company policies, applicable laws, and contract law requirements. Key responsibilities also include monitoring and reporting procurement spend, providing data, insights, and recommendations to the Procurement Manager to improve efficiency and delivery standards. The ability to analyze spending, work confidently in SAP and Excel, and communicate clearly is essential for informed decision-making. Occasionally, the specialist may provide direct line management to temporary procurement resources. The position emphasizes continuous professional growth, developing commercial expertise, influencing stakeholders to adopt best-practice procurement approaches, and ensuring compliance with agreed strategies and processes. Success is measured by cost savings, internal customer satisfaction, supplier performance, and operational reliability.

Requirements

  • Degree in Business Studies
  • 5+ years of SAP experience required (S4 and P2P preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of contract law, purchasing terms, and conditions
  • Strong expertise in supplier selection strategies and negotiations
  • Experience managing suppliers across different geographical regions with varying legal and financial conditions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across functions
  • Strong IT capability, including SAP, Microsoft Office, and advanced Excel
  • A proactive, organized, and detail-oriented approach to managing competing priorities
  • A mindset focused on value creation, compliance, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of strong, compliant supplier relationships—monitoring performance, driving improvement, and ensuring alignment with company policies, applicable laws, and contract law requirements.
  • Monitor and report procurement spend, supporting the Procurement Manager with data, insights, and recommendations that improve efficiency and delivery standards across the business.
