Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 6 years of related experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Recent and extensive experience developing software in Ada, C++ or Java.
  • Willingness to become highly proficient with Ada software development.
  • Extremely strong math and physics background required.
  • Quick to learn and absorb new concepts and information.
  • Unix/Linux Operating System experience.
  • Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in mathematics or physics.
  • Highly experienced with Linux, scripting, and operations.
  • Experience with automated, software requirements testing and analysis.
  • Experience with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program.
  • Experience with Agile Project Management tools (Jira/Confluence) and DevSecOps tools and methods (Jenkins, Ansible, Git/Bitbucket).
  • Recent MATLAB and Python experience.
  • Experience with processing multi-sensor, multi-spectrum sensor tracks with multiple biases.

Responsibilities

  • Write software for the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Fire Control (GFC) software team.
  • Evaluate and manage the threat scene for the missile defense system.
  • Collaborate to understand, implement, and test existing and new capabilities and algorithms.
  • Participate in code modernization and translation of Ada code to C++.
  • Support reviews of requirements and test cases developed in support of the GFC software team.
