About The Position

The Senior Principal Platform Engineer will direct development of crucial IT platforms and processes and contribute to strategic decisions that support long-term IT objectives. Mentor and develop engineers, partnering with management to provide quarterly and yearly objectives for the team that contribute directly to the organization’s strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Determine and analyze trends from data that is collected to assist in compiling reports that will help in decision-making.
  • Understand business context, needs, rules, and architecture, as well as organizational structure, cultures, capabilities, and processes to document the current state of processes and the business.
  • Express user needs in terms of business requirements, identify current capability of the business to deliver, conduct build or buy analyses, and recommend preferred approach.
  • Develop an effective change strategy based on gap analyses and enterprise readiness assessment results, including transitions states and release plans.
  • Conduct gap analysis between current and future states to identify components of the overall change strategy.
  • Design, execute and report on systems/service tests to ensure that an application functions as specified in the requirements.
  • Create reports, and review reports created by others, for various audiences as relevant, in a lucid and effective manner, keeping in mind the purpose of reports.
  • Review and evaluate recommendations and requirements and to develop appropriate plans or deliver actions required.
  • Develop and execute architectures, policies and practices in order to manage the information lifecycle needs of an organization.
  • Work directly with Architecture in developing an enterprise readiness assessment to determine the organization's readiness for change.
  • Adopt solutions to automate and manage multiple applications and functions within an organization.
  • Manage and administer various infrastructure components such as compute, storage, cloud, network, observability and tooling/automation.
  • Proficiently navigate and manage private and public cloud-based infrastructure, including virtual machines, networks, storage, and services.
  • Experience with Infrastructure Automation technologies, such as Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling
  • Experience with managing containerized infrastructure, such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Cloud Run
  • Scripting and/or programming experience with languages such as Bash, Powershell, or Python
  • Ability to delegate, providing resources clear and concise communication enabling the successful completion of tasks, including the ability to right clear success criteria or “definition of done”
  • Directly contribute to quarterly and yearly platform road mapping exercises
  • Identify, as well as develop, training for engineering team
  • Wide and deep experience providing expert competence (10+ years)
  • Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short / medium timescales within the overall policy framework. (4+ years)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and deploying cloud platforms
  • Experience in developing Enterprise standards supporting global workloads across private and public cloud providers
  • Experience with cloud cost management, utilizing reporting tools and planning tools, to ensure the effective use of resources and cost estimation activities with Application Development teams

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee infrastructure developments and maintenance to ensure business requirements can be met.
  • Partner with Architecture to lead definition of architectural standards for all technology services and components (applications, data, integration, technology, security, business).
  • Present business and IT leaders with signature-ready recommendations for adjusting policies and projects to achieve target business outcomes that capitalize on relevant digital disruptions.
  • Document the most complex "as is" and "to be" processes and describe the changes required to migrate to the "to be" capability to record accurately the change required.
  • Elicit the most-complex business requirements using a variety of methods, such as interviews, document analysis, workshops, and workflow analysis, to express the requirements in terms of target user roles and goals.
  • Develop straightforward business cases to quantify current costs, justify project investment, and identify the return on investment.
  • Directly support Information Security in detecting and analyzing security incidents, including attacks, breaches, and identified vulnerabilities, and remediate any security gaps in line with the security incident management procedure.
  • Lead retrospects to ensure appropriate hardening steps are taken across the infrastructure to further mitigate or eliminate any future occurrences.
  • Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs.
  • Plan and implement actions, including continuing professional development specified by professional or regulatory institutions, to build their professional capabilities.
  • Provide informal training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
  • Monitor and review performance and behaviors within area of responsibility to identify and resolve noncompliance with the organization's standards, policies and relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct.
  • Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost-benefit analysis on implementing changes to business processes, products, or business unit structure.
  • Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and evaluate their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.
  • Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of the infrastructure platform to better meet users’ needs.
  • Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team.
  • Maintain external accreditations and in- depth understanding of current and emerging external regulation and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Design systems which provide fault isolation and resolution for complex challenges to limit and address issues promptly.
  • Design and monitor the quality of system and component tests and respond to user emails to monitor, diagnose, and correct performance issues.
