About The Position

The Sr. Principal Mass Properties Analyst at Northrop Grumman is responsible for performing mass properties functional analysis, timeline analysis, and detail trade studies to translate mass properties requirements into hardware and software specifications. This role involves analyzing and testing system hardware for optimal mass properties solutions and contributing to the Mass Properties team to meet program requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline and 6 years of relevant experience; OR 4 years with PhD
  • Experience with mass property and weight and balance analysis
  • Familiarity with Society of Allied Weight Engineers RP 7 & 8
  • Ability to transfer and maintain a government Secret clearance and any required program access

Nice To Haves

  • Aircraft Weight and Balance Certification
  • Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) experience
  • Experience in vehicle design and manufacturing techniques
  • Siemens NX or CATIA proficiency
  • Familiarity with a Common Product Lifecycle Management system such as SmarTeam or Teamcenter

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of a Mass Properties Management and Control Program
  • Accurate estimating and optimizing of mass properties to achieve vehicle performance and fulfill weight-based program metrics
  • Establish specification and design target weights
  • Maintain the Mass Properties accounting and reporting systems to inform customers and management of current and projected mass properties trends
  • Provide mass properties data for cost analyses and vehicle design and analysis
  • Evaluate subcontractor proposals and oversee subcontractor mass properties management and control
  • Review drawings to achieve mass properties management and control
  • Measure/weigh vehicle and/or components to increase vehicle weight estimate accuracy
  • Provide mass properties data in support of operational flight manual
