Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Engineer - Material Processes to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA, supporting the Palmdale Aircraft Integration Center of Excellence (PAICoE) organization.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a Program Special access within a reasonable period of time.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience.
  • Familiar with composite pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials.
  • Fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures, familiar with metallic materials and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with working on military aircraft.
  • Experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science.
  • Experience with material Obsolescence issues and qualifying materials.
  • Experience with LO materials.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Applying principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions.
  • Working in a team environment with other engineering organizations performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans.
