About The Position

Nextracker is seeking a motivated Sr. Power Electronics Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Sr. Power Electronics Controls Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and optimization of power electronics systems for Nextracker's innovative energy products. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of sustainable energy solutions while collaborating with a world-class team of engineers and researchers.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in electrical engineering or 3+ years of industry experience in power conversion.
  • Proficiency in using real-time digital simulation tools (RTDS, OPAL-RT, Typhoon) for implementing and testing control software.
  • Proficient in schematic capture and PCB layout tools, such as Altium Designer.
  • Experience designing high efficiency converters using high voltage SiC and/or GaN devices.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor devices, magnetic components, and control theory.
  • Strong skills in system control analysis using tools like MATLAB simulink or equivalent.
  • Experience with power system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PSCAD).
  • Experience implementing real time hardware control using microcontrollers or FPGAs.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and debugging abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex electrical systems.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and functions.
  • Passion for sustainable energy solutions, with a desire to drive positive change through innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of multiple power converters to production, spanning from a few hundred watts to several hundred kW, collaborating within a team environment.
  • Address challenges at scale to achieve industry-leading reliability and efficiency.
  • Execute hardware design tasks such as MOSFET selection, sensing circuitry, schematic design, magnetics design, and layout.
  • Work closely with the firmware team in designing control loops.
  • Support the specification/requirements phase for defining Hardware in the Loop test systems.
  • Support and maintain the development of plant models used in the HIL System.
  • Design software verification test, for power converter SW components, mainly on HIL environment with emphasis on UL1741 compliance testing.
  • Utilize expertise with FPGA and microcontrollers, along with peripheral circuitry.
