PRIMARY PURPOSE Provides leadership to phlebotomy staff, collects blood specimens from patients and assumes responsibility for processing of specimens, data entry and point of care testing following established standards and practices.

Requirements

• High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or a college degree.
• Two years of phlebotomy experience in both venipuncture and capillary techniques.
• Registration as a Phlebotomy Technician by ASCP is preferred.
• Current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to satisfactorily complete 90% of all collections within the 90 day probationary period.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and logs.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of a personal computer and required software.
• Effective organizational skills.
• Knowledge and skill in meeting age-related and handicapped patients' needs.
• Ability to cooperate with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
• Ability to handle detailed work and maintain a pleasant demeanor under pressure.
• Clear speech, normal hearing, and good visual acuity.
• Ability to move rapidly from one location to the next.
• Ability to make decisions and solve problems.
